Ski Tube River Race, Tuesday 24 February

The Ski Tube Race was held on Tuesday 24 February. Ed Mordt, Jamie Foster and Shane McGurk conducted the event with the support of four very capable Year 11 leaders.

We have been trying to do this event for some time now and have finally pulled it off. All the boys from Knutsford house were summoned to the rowing shed to compete in the race. The race consisted of two teams of ten boys each with their own round red ski tube. The objective was to navigate around the first green marker out in the bay in front of the Christ Church boat shed, about 500 metres from shore. So with all the excited boys geared up in their life jackets and places in their teams, our support leaders from the Year 11s from Knutsford were out there in kayaks ready to give a helping hand to anyone who might drift astray or encounter any problems.

The race was off with the boys making loads of noise and splashes (but covering surprisingly little ground), until they all began to work together in their teams to direct their ski tube in the right direction. The noise kept going all the way out to the check point probably due to the fact the boys were attacking each other with jelly grenades (jellyfish) for the entire length of the trip with the occasional one flying into one of the Year 11 supervisors.

The winning team was made up of the following boys:

Scott, Jamie, Sam, Cameron, Jordan, Riaan, Julian, Max and Stevie.

The event was a great thing to do and I believe the boys thoroughly enjoyed it, so it will very likely feature again in the near future.
