The Christ Church Rugby Club has a long and proud history. Former staff member Courtney Stoate first introduced rugby to the School in the 1950s and since then it has gathered much momentum. While the School has not won a title in a number of years it is determined to change as it prepares for the 2012 season. This year, the First XV takes to the field with considerably high expectations after an impressive 2011 campaign.
To play First XV for Christ Church requires a great deal of hard work and dedication, and the boys are expected to train above and beyond a normal training load for winter sport. They are subjected to a gruelling pre-season camp, followed by hours on the pitch and in the gym to ensure they are up to the level necessary to be successful. Tom Jerram and Matt Davis have again been appointed as the First XV coaches for the 2012 season. They have worked together for the past two years and have already seen a big improvement in the skill set of the boys.
Chris Miles, Teacher in Charge of Rugby and previously a First XV coach, will coach the Year 10 side and assist in the development of the Year 7, 8 and 9 programmes, which the club hopes will have a significant impact in preparing boys for senior rugby. Also, to further enhance the club atmosphere and provide a link between a local club and Christ Church Rugby, all junior teams will now train together on Wednesday afternoons at Nedlands Rugby Club. All junior boys are encouraged to play club rugby as it will assist greatly in their development.
Over the coming years, the School hopes to turn Christ Church Rugby Club into one of the dominant forces in PSA Rugby.
