Last Friday afternoon the weather held off for the House Cross-country event. This annual event was a festival of colour as the boys ran through Kings Park in their House tops. Starting and ending at the May Drive Parkland the competition was tight as the terrain changed from grass to road base and then sand before the final sprint up the Shute to the finishing line. The respective Year group winners were Willian Rea (Year 7), Rhys Oxley(Year 8), Christopher Scatena (Year 9) and in the seniors Jonah Hanikeri (Year 10) won ahead of Joshua Neervoort (Year 11) and Jack Crago (Year 12) in 2nd and 3rd place. In a close battle for the championship cup Craigie came home with the trophy with Jupp and Romsey close behind.
I would like to commend our Year 12 cohort on their behaviour at the Ball last Friday night. From the formal entry to the quality food and entertaining music, it was a great night for the students and their partners at the Hyatt Hotel. I would like to thank the staff who gave up their Friday night to supervise our students with their dates. By all accounts, the boys all thoroughly enjoyed their night. This was followed by a similar event on Saturday night for the Year 11 cohort in the school Gym. Maybe a lesser venue but the students and their partner again enjoyed the atmosphere and the appreciated the efforts made by an enthusiastic parent group and the staff to enable this event to proceed so successfully.
On Monday night we had a great turn out of parents and boys at the House tutor meeting. This important opportunity to meet with tutors, and for the boys to review and set goals for the coming semester sets the tone for the boys’ academic direction.
Next week our annual NAIDOC Exhibition opens in the Old Boys Gallery. This will be a tremendous celebration of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture represented by the boys we have in our Christ Church community. The huge mural will be a standout piece and the boys’ individually designed ties will highlight the unique stories of the boys in the program.
