  • Paul Dillon

Thank you to parents and students who took part in the on-campus interviews on Monday night. It was great to see the community engaging in meaningful opportunities to connect and discuss the boys’ goals for 2023.

The goal setting process was implemented to ensure consistency across the Senior School and imbedded into each boys NEXUS page so that it can be referenced regularly by boys and tutors; to check progress and review actions. It was encouraging to see how effectual this new process was on Monday night. The role of the Tutor is integral throughout a boy’s journey to becoming a man here at Christ Church. A Tutor is many things: a parent’s single point of contact at the school, a boys first point of contact every morning, and the first person a teacher reaches out to about their students’ academic or pastoral performance, good or bad – just to name a few. Our Tutors play a significant role I have witnessed a table tennis competition early one morning, through to our Tutors engaging with our boys through a game of cards or chess and this is what continues to set our boys apart from others.

As a school we are concerned about use of e-cigarette and vaping devices, and serious effects they may have on young people both in the short and long term. Paul Dillon will speak with our upper Senior School boys next week on the importance of making healthier choices and the risk taking associated with drugs, vapes and alcohol.

Paul is also recording a presentation for our parent community which will be released next week to coincide with his visit to Perth. During the session Paul will provide up-to-date and accurate information on the use drugs alcohol and vaping, including the potential harms associated with the use of these devices, particularly for young people.

Practical advice will also be provided on how to talk to young people about vaping, as well as some possible responses that parents can use should their child attempt to challenge them in this complex area.
