Welcome back to Term 3, I hope everyone had a wonderful break.

In 2016, we commenced the journey to be the first school in Western Australia to receive accreditation with the Council of International Schools (CIS). CIS is a membership community committed to high quality and best practice education. To achieve the goal of accreditation, the School is required to infuse its programs and offerings with international and intercultural perspectives to ensure its students develop attitudes and understandings that provide them with a solid base wherever their studies or work may take them.

Over the past two years a significant number of staff have dedicated hours working on the School’s various submissions to the Council, including the preparatory evaluation, which received extremely encouraging feedback from the review committee and more recently, the self-study component. The self-study component is the most important and valuable stage of the accreditation cycle, identifying the School’s strengths as well as areas for development and initiating actions to address them.

The CIS accreditation requires the School to provide an in-depth review and commentary on a number of areas crucial to its existence and successful operation including:

– Purpose and direction
– Governance and leadership
– The curriculum
– Teaching and assessing learning
– Students’ learning and wellbeing
– Staffing
– Premises and physical accommodation
– Community and home partnerships
– Boarding and homestay and residential

I would like to thank all of the staff involved in the submissions, I know that the work done was extensive and above and beyond their existing workload. As with all things at Christ Church, every submission was of an impressive high standard. To our community who participated in the community survey, thank you for your input. Without this combined effort, we would not have progressed to this point.

The next stage will occur in August this year when we welcome eight members of the Council to the School to complete the final review. Post this meeting we expect to hear from the Council as to whether our application has been successful. Running in parallel, we will be taking the learnings from our self-study, looking for emergent themes that will ultimately form the foundations of the School’s new Strategic Plan which we will start to draft in 2019.
