Last Friday night I, and many other staff, attended the Christ Church and St Hilda’s Combined Concert and were so impressed by the talent of all the students who participated. Congratulations to all the students who performed on the night and to the very talented team in the Music Department.

Saturday night was the Year 12 Ball and our students and their guests enjoyed a night at the Hyatt.  All of the boys were very mature, impeccably groomed and enjoyed a fun evening with their partners and peers. Thank you to the students and their parents for making sure the guidelines were adhered to and to all the staff who attended on the night.

On Sunday, we held our Year 9 Sundowner and also commenced the OQD program for Craigie House Year 9 students. Although the program was only introduced at the start of this year we are pleased to see the boys really enjoying it and the parents, who each spend a weekend in the program, also benefitting from this new initiative. The feedback from both the students and the parents who have participated in the OQD program so far has been very positive.

Every year, Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) which assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through their regular school curriculum. Over the next three years NAPLAN testing will move online. NAPLAN online will not be a test of keyboard skills. There are variations in how fast and well a student can type – just as there are variations in how fast and well a student can write by hand. Year 3 students will continue to complete the writing test on paper.

To avoid any potential issues, we have decided not to introduce the NAPLAN online this year, but will in the coming years. Regardless of whether the test is complete online or on paper, results for both formats will be reported on the same NAPLAN assessment scale.

Today at assembly our Captains of Sport for winter 2018 were announced. Congratulations to all of the boys who have been recognised as captains and vice captains. With winter sport commencing this weekend for our Senior School students I look forward to watching the boys in action and catching up with parents and friends on the sideline.
