This week we have been preparing for the School’s birthday celebration which was held this morning. A wonderful sense of tradition surrounds this celebration, with the lighting of the flame at Christ Church Claremont followed by a procession from the church to the school gym where all the boys and staff gather. The School’s founder, Reverend William McClemans was the rector of the church in the early 1900s, and in 1909 he convinced the Anglican Church Dioscesan Trustees to purchase a slither of land opposite the church from Alfred Sandover for the price of four hundred and seventy-five pounds. McClemans’ vision was for a school for boys somewhere between Fremantle and the city and in 1910, on the land where the school stands today, 9 boys attended Christ Church Grammar School. The rest of course is history!

Today Christ Church Grammar School has over 1650 boys, including 110 boarders, has an envious diverse and connected community, and talented teaching and support staff who are all focused on delivering what is best for the boys. I couldn’t be more proud than I am today to lead this wonderful school.

Next year we will be celebrating our 110th birthday and we are already thinking about how we can bring the boys, parents, staff and the broader community together in a fitting celebration of this milestone.

Last Sunday we held our Year 5 Sundowner which provided parents with an overview of the School’s Outdoor education program presented by Ryan Myles the Director of our Kooringal Outdoor Education Centre. In March, we have Sundowners for Years 6, 7 and 8 parents. The School Sundowners format is an information session followed by drinks and finger food, and I strongly recommend that parents attend. Thank you to the Parents’ Association for their ongoing support of these events.

I hope all experienced bike riders are in training for the 2019 Principal’s Bike Ride. This will be held on Sunday 17 March and you can purchase riding tops from the Uniform Shop. Please come along and enjoy the morning  – you can register online here.
