  • Design and Technology Exhibition
  • Duke of Edinburgh Award
  • Years 3 to 6 Swimming Carnival
  • Orientation Day

Last Friday night the Design and Technology Exhibition opened and the projects that our students have been working on for some time were on display.  The work was incredibly impressive and reveals a lot of commitment and skill. The students and teachers are to be congratulated for the high standard of workmanship achieved. Some of the pieces can be seen here.

The Duke of Edinburgh is an international Award comprised of three levels, each progressively more challenging. Participants are required to complete four sections at each level: Voluntary Service, Skill, Physical Recreation and Adventurous Journey. At Gold level, participants also complete a Gold Residential Project. As an Award Ambassador the School is aligned with all that this internationally recognised youth leadership program sets out to achieve. I am very proud of our boys who participate and encourage others to do so. To be a recipient of this award at any level is an achievement that really sets them apart. Our Years 3 to 6 boys have their swimming carnival today which is always about participation and enjoyment. Our swimming program encourages the boys to embrace swimming for pleasure at this early age and exercise as they get older. Interestingly, research from the Griffith Institute for Educational Research found young children who participated in early-years swimming achieved a wide range of skills earlier than the normal population.

Tomorrow morning before heading out and joining the Year 10 boys at Venture we welcome all of our incoming students for 2020. Orientation Day is always a great way for the boys to see and meet others in their House, navigate the campus, participate in some learning and hopefully remove or decrease any anxious thoughts about starting at a new school. Our Year 6 boys have had a year of transition events and will be incredibly important in making the new boys feel welcome.
