  • Remote learning professional development
  • NAIDOC Week – Senior School
  • Survey commencing this week – Years 3,6,9 and 12
  • Amor Fati
  • Staff updates

This term we have started to conduct parent events and committee meetings face-to-face, whilst continuing to observe social distancing and hygiene measures. It is really encouraging seeing events come and go each week, however we continue to keep an eye on what is transpiring in other states, knowing it can all change very quickly. Staff have commenced remote learning professional development, ensuring that the skills utilised earlier this year are revised and teachers feel prepared to switch from face-to-face learning if required.

Next week the Senior School celebrates NAIDOC Week with several videos created by our Indigenous boys and an assembly on Thursday where all boys will have the opportunity to see the amazing mural painted by the Indigenous students. The mural focuses on the Swan River (Derbarl Yerrigan) starting at Fremantle (Walyallup) and the six Noongar seasons that were extremely important to the Whadjuk Noongar people who lived on the swan coastal plan.

As part of the School’s commitment to ongoing excellence, we conduct an annual survey to evaluate our current performance against levels of satisfaction from within the community. Each year, Years 3, 6, 9 and 12 parents and Years 6, 9 and 12 students and our staff are invited to participate in a survey. The surveys are confidential and cannot be identified with any individual. Parents of Years 3, 6, 9 and 12 boys, please look out for an email from MMG issued tomorrow and I encourage you to participate. Once the research has been completed, MMG will provide a report on its findings and the School in turn will provide the community with feedback.

Next week the Midnite production Amor Fati commences, running from Wednesday 19 to Saturday 22 August. This clever production explores the binary opposition of isolation and intimacy, order and chaos, space and time in a world of flux – rather appropriate during Covid. As we are lucky enough in WA to be able to hold and attend events, please consider supporting the cast and buying tickets to one of the performances. Please follow this link.

I would like to extend my congratulations to Neil Walker, Head of English, who has accepted the role of Deputy Principal, Teaching and Learning at Presbyterian Ladies’ College Perth, and Les Goh, Director of Pedagogy, who has been appointed Director of Studies at Hale School. Both appointments commence at the start of the 2021 school year, signalling the start of an exciting new chapter for both and we wish them well.
