  • Chapel 50 year celebration
  • 30th Venture expedition
  • Launch of LQD
  • Orientation Day this Friday

On Saturday afternoon we celebrated 50 years of the Chapel’s presence on campus and recognised Father Frank Sheehan for his wonderful contributions to the School and community over the past 35 years. Father Frank will be retiring at the conclusion of the school year. One of the moving videos played on the day celebrates the Chapel, the Architect of the Chapel, John Lidbury and Frank in equal parts as is right and proper. Frank has been an inspiration to thousands of boys, many parents, all of his teaching colleagues and legions of interesting people in the wider community. During the event, the Archbishop of Perth, Kay Goldsworthy AO delivered a moving sermon which included a reference of the Sanctuary Cross which hangs proudly above the pulpit and holds significant meaning for all who have a connection to the School. It was a once in a lifetime event and I was honoured to be present. Recorded footage from the occasion will be available shortly.

On Tuesday our Year 10 boys left the campus to travel down south and commence Venture 2020. Celebrating its 30th year in 2020, the Venture Expedition represents the culmination of our Outdoor Education program and the most significant rite of passage for our boys. Whenever I speak with old boys about their time at Christ Church their experience of Venture is the single most frequently mentioned event. I look forward to hearing the stories that inevitably arise from this once in a lifetime experience.

On Sunday afternoon we launched our new program, Little Queenslea Drive (LQD) which will commence in the first week of February 2021 for all Year 4 boys. The program includes the first overnight stay for Preparatory School students and will run for two days culminating with a presentation attended by parents. The program has been designed to allow the boys time to form strong connections with their peers and teachers.

This evening I will be attending the Old Boys’ Association Sundowner which is always a great opportunity for our old boy community to come together and celebrate the year while also introducing new members of the OBA Committee to other members.

Tomorrow is Orientation Day, a big day for many. This is when we welcome our incoming Year 7s (2021) and current Year 6s into the Senior School for a full-day of activities and the sharing of important information with the aim of getting the boys ‘Christ Church ready’ and making the transition as smooth as possible. This is an exciting time for the boys and parents prior to them commencing their journey in the Senior School.

As we lead up to Christmas I would like to highlight two exciting events for you and your family to attend; our Christmas Carol Service and Christmas Eve Service. More details on both events can be found under our CCGS World year group notices.
