  • PERFORM – A shift away from traditional performing arts space

Every year we invite our Music scholars to perform at an intimate concert for family and friends and every year we are presented with outstanding performances. It is hard to describe how extraordinarily talented these students are and over the next few weeks their performances will be on Facebook for everyone to enjoy. The night included vocalists and a range of instrumental performances – trumpet, cello, guitar, piano, violin, clarinet, marimba and the electric guitar. The wide range of instruments indicates the amazing choice available to our students and this coupled with the School supporting the students choice of lessons with an external teacher of their choice or teachers on campus ensure the Music program continues at a very high level. The night also highlights the wonderful work of our Music Department team, led by Director of Music, Chiara Kingwell, and supported by a team of amazing professionals.

This music theme continues over the next two weeks with Ellington Jazz Club next Monday night for our Jazz students, Rock at Rosemount on Sunday 25 June for all of our Rock ensembles and the Preparatory Winter Concert on Tuesday 27 June in the Chapel.

Before Term 2 concludes we will also be treated to a Midnite Theatre production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Subiaco Arts Centre.

The Arts are extremely important and this year money raised during Annual Giving will be directed to PERFORM. This space will enhance our students soft skills with a dedicated home for debating, public speaking, performing, presenting and the House Arts competitions. This is a shift away from the traditional role of a performing arts centre to a place of innovation and learning.

We believe that it is important to place a value on the creative arts. Collaboration, problem solving, critical thinking, imagination, communication, agility and empathy – these are the profound experiences and learning that a creative arts curriculum can offer. Our clear desire is to have a cultural heart of the school, PERFORM, a place where are boys lives are enriched. If you would like to have a confidential conversation about a gift to PERFORM please contact me or Halina Dorward on 9442 1542.
