Last weekend I attended the Anglican Schools Australia Conference in Brisbane and enjoyed spending time with Nicholas Russell, who starts at Christ Church in 2018 as the new Chaplain. Every year the conference brings together leaders from more than 150 Anglican schools and the connections made and discussions held at the conference ensure Christ Church has a voice on the national education stage.

This morning it was wonderful to spend time with community members at our Mother/Son Breakfast for our Year 10 boys. With around 280 people in attendance, everyone enjoyed hearing from Tomasso D’Orsogna as he spoke from the heart on finding oneself, determining what you value in life, that success is relative and importantly, that challenges are the catalyst for change. We are very lucky, as a community, to have such talented, humble old boys who want to share their experiences.

We then moved to the Chapel for the Senior School House Shout and presentation of winners in the House Visual Arts kite competition. The House Shout was a wonderful event celebrating iconic rock anthems released over the years and the voices of hundreds of our boys did those years proud. Congratulations to Craigie House, who sang Holy Grail incredibly well and are the winners of the 2017 House Shout. Congratulations also to Wolsey House who won the House Visual Arts kite competition, and to Romsey who took out second place.

At an assembly on 31 August we will take time to congratulate our PSA championship winners. This year we won Cross Country, Hockey, Swimming, Tennis and Cricket. Additionally, we finished in the top three in Soccer, Surfing, Water Polo and Rowing. I am reliably informed by our Director of Sport, Anthony Lynch, that five premierships in one year hasn’t happened since 1957. The Cross Country result was outstanding and I want to thank Jacob Marai and Katie Williams for their wonderful leadership throughout the season and to all the boys who competed this year, well done, your dedication delivered a fabulous result. Photos from Saturday’s run can be seen here.

A reminder about parking. There is an understanding that Christ Church families can utilise the MLC drop off and pick up points and vice versa, however please be aware that parking bays at MLC can only accommodate parking for the MLC Junior Years’ parents and families with appointments at MLC.

There has been a lot of discussion recently about a three week break mid-year instead of the current two weeks. At this stage I wish to remain with the current model as I am unaware of any educational rationale that would support increasing the time off in the middle of the year.

I would like to wish everyone an enjoyable mid-term break.
