Today our Athletics team are competing against other schools in the JPSSA Athletics Carnival. The boys were selected during trials and the Years 3 to 6 House Athletics Carnival in June. I am sure the boys are competing with the usual Christ Church pride and sportsmanship.

As Week 8 comes to an end a reminder that very soon the busiest week in the life of the Preparatory School starts, 17 to 22 September – The Week of the Arts.

Sunday 17 September
The opening concert begins at 2.00pm in the Chapel, and as part of this concert, the ‘Pirates of the Curry Bean’ cast will perform. The Art Exhibition will be open from 3.00pm until 5.00pm in the Prep Library.

From Monday 18 September
The Week of the Arts will feature the Pirates of the Curry Bean production on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Class concerts will occur during the week.

Wednesday 20 September
Year 6 Father/Significant Other and Son Breakfast and Learning Journey from 7.20am in Sandover Dining Hall. After school classes, will all be open for Learning Journeys until 5.00pm. Learning Journeys are the way we share your son’s progress during the term with you. Please attend either the Wednesday or Thursday Learning Journey. The Art Exhibition will also be open as part of this time.

Thursday 21 September
The House Shout occurs from 1.30pm in the Chapel. This House singing competition is a wonderful Christ Church spectacle and is a great event to attend. Learning Journeys are on directly after school, until 5.00pm.

Friday 22 September
Grandparents/Grandfriends morning brings our week to a close. This is a very special day when the boys get to share their learning with their Grandparent/Grandfriends. It is a full house so I ask respectfully that parents do not attend.

Parking
Please be aware that there is no parking on campus for any of the events. There will be a drop off zone on Queenslea Drive for Grandparents Day, for the remainder of the community we ask that you ‘walk-a-little-way’. Each term, our Parent Forums provide parents with opportunities to raise matters, ask questions, listen to guest speakers from across the School, and connect with the Head of Preparatory School. The topic will cover the 2025 Focus Areas.

School Photo Day

Pre-Kindergarten to Year 3 students will have their class photo taken on Wednesday 21 May. Every student will receive a personalised flyer to bring home from Kapture Photography containing your child’s unique codes for ordering school photos online. Keep your flyer secure, as the unique codes contained on the flyer will be issued only once. Students in Year 3 should wear their winter formal uniform. Students in Pre-Kindergarten to Year 2 should wear their PE uniform (not house shirt).

Order your photos up to 10 calendar days after photo day to receive discount photo day prices. Late orders are handled separately from the school delivery and incur a $30 custom service charge.

New School Polos

A recent chat on WhatsApp regarding the School Polos raised concerns about the fabric and care of the garment. The fabric has been specifically selected for its functionality and comfort, UV protection, and mid-weight and breathable knit.

It is also Oeko-Tex certified, which means no nasty chemicals are used in the dyeing process. Sard is recommended for heavy stains, and washing inside out will promote garment longevity. We are grateful for the feedback and continue to liaise with the manufacturer to ensure our boys are comfortable and confident wearing the uniform.

The Uniform Shop will be operating with extended trading hours leading up to the April school holidays. Please click here for a full list of trading hours.

Kearla Food Drive

This term, Kearla House is supporting the WA Food Bank with a Food Drive through Weeks 8 to 11. In WA, over 116,000 children live in households experiencing severe insecurity. This means these children often don’t have enough food at home to keep them healthy. These children go to school hungry, regularly miss meals and are often worried about where their next meal will come from.

Christ Church students can help by bringing non-perishable foods to school and placing them in the allocated bins over the next 4 weeks. The most wanted items include:
canned meals, canned veggies, fruit, tuna and soup, baked beans, pasta and rice, pasta sauce, oats, cereal, spreads and jams, washing products, meal bases, nappies, and toilet paper.

Kearla House and the WA Food Bank thank you for your support.

Broome Swimming Clinic

In May, Head Swimming Coach Will Greenwood and members of the CCGS Swim Team will be in Broome, conducting a swimming clinic for the locals. Christ Church has a strong aquatics program, and this clinic offers our senior swimmers the chance to develop their leadership skills while building connections in the Broome swimming community. Please refer any families and friends in the area to the booking page here.

Red Cross Bindaring Clothing Sale – seeking clothes and accessories donations

Christ Church Grammar School is once again supporting Australian Red Cross’ annual Bindaring Clothing Sale. Red Cross are seeking donations of clean, good-quality clothes for men, women and children. They are also accepting accessories such as shoes, bags, belts, scarves and jewellery in good condition. The Bindaring Clothing Sale will be held at Claremont Showgrounds on Saturday 24 May. All funds raised support Australian Red Cross local services in our WA community. Please see details below if you would like to support this fantastic cause.

Collection boxes will be located in the Uniform Shop, Main Reception and the Preparatory School Reception from Monday 28 April to Friday 9 May. Two collection mornings will be held on Wednesday 30 April and Monday 5 May with Bindaring volunteers attending the School to accept donations.

This year Christ Church will be holding a service of baptism and confirmation. This will occur on Friday 25 July at 5.00pm in the School Chapel. Any students, parents or staff interested in either being baptised and/or confirmed at the service are welcome to be involved. The service is also open to siblings of CCGS students and future CCGS students. Preparation meetings and sessions will begin soon.

Trial Dalkeith bus route

We introduced trial Dalkeith the service with the hope that it would be well utilised and save parents driving time and lighten the traffic load in and around the School. Unfortunately, with so few students utilising the service, it is not viable for us to continue, and the route will not continue into Term 2.

Changes to the CCGS/MLC Southern Suburbs Bus Service

Thank you for your patience as we addressed several issues with the Southern Suburbs service this term. While Buswest has resolved some concerns, traffic congestion remains a challenge beyond our control.

From Term 2, the AM route has been adjusted with several stop changes to improve reliability. Please review the revised AM timetable and locations here. The PM route remains largely unchanged, aside from the removal of two stops. Updated times are available via the link above, and an interactive map is available here.

Due to ongoing Fremantle Traffic Bridge works, we encourage families to consider the train as a reliable alternative to ensure timely arrival at school.

Students arriving before 8.00am will be supervised:
- Preparatory School: White umbrellas/undercover area
- Senior School: Academic Resource Centre from 7.45am
We appreciate your understanding as we continue to prioritise the safe and timely arrival of students.

Thank you to the parents who were able to attend our workshop with Ngala presenter Angela Knight last Thursday. The session and slides are not able to be shared digitally as Ngala are an external provider, however, Angela recommends the following resources for further support:

Christ Church has a strong aquatics program, and this clinic offers our senior swimmers the chance to develop their leadership skills while building connections in the Broome swimming community. Red Cross Bindaring Clothing Sale – seeking clothes and accessories donations

Christ Church Grammar School is once again supporting Australian Red Cross’ annual Bindaring Clothing Sale. Red Cross are seeking donations of clean, good-quality clothes for men, women and children. They are also accepting accessories such as shoes, bags, belts, scarves and jewellery in good condition. The Bindaring Clothing Sale will be held at Claremont Showgrounds on Saturday 24 May. All funds raised support Australian Red Cross local services in our WA community. Please see details below if you would like to support this fantastic cause.

Collection boxes will be located in the Uniform Shop, Main Reception and the Preparatory School Reception from Monday 28 April to Friday 9 May. Two collection mornings will be held on Wednesday 30 April and Monday 5 May with Bindaring volunteers attending the School to accept donations.

Trial Dalkeith bus route

We introduced trial Dalkeith the service with the hope that it would be well utilised and save parents driving time and lighten the traffic load in and around the School. Unfortunately, with so few students utilising the service, it is not viable for us to continue, and the route will not continue into Term 2.

Changes to the CCGS/MLC Southern Suburbs Bus Service

Thank you for your patience as we addressed several issues with the Southern Suburbs service this term. While Buswest has resolved some concerns, traffic congestion remains a challenge beyond our control.

From Term 2, the AM route has been adjusted with several stop changes to improve reliability. Please review the revised AM timetable and locations here. The PM route remains largely unchanged, aside from the removal of two stops. Updated times are available via the link above, and an interactive map is available here.

Due to ongoing Fremantle Traffic Bridge works, we encourage families to consider the train as a reliable alternative to ensure timely arrival at school.

Students arriving before 8.00am will be supervised:
- Preparatory School: White umbrellas/undercover area
- Senior School: Academic Resource Centre from 7.45am

Pre-Kindergarten to Year 3 students will have their class photo taken on Wednesday 21 May. Every student will receive a personalised flyer to bring home from Kapture Photography containing your child’s unique codes for ordering school photos online. Keep your flyer secure, as the unique codes contained on the flyer will be issued only once. Students in Year 3 should wear their winter formal uniform. Students in Pre-Kindergarten to Year 2 should wear their PE uniform (not house shirt).

Order your photos up to 10 calendar days after photo day to receive discount photo day prices. Late orders are handled separately from the school delivery and incur a $30 custom service charge.

New School Polos

A recent chat on WhatsApp regarding the School Polos raised concerns about the fabric and care of the garment. The fabric has been specifically selected for its functionality and comfort, UV protection, and mid-weight and breathable knit.

It is also Oeko-Tex certified, which means no nasty chemicals are used in the dyeing process. Sard is recommended for heavy stains, and washing inside out will promote garment longevity. We are grateful for the feedback and continue to liaise with the manufacturer to ensure our boys are comfortable and confident wearing the uniform.

Kearla Food Drive

This term, Kearla House is supporting the WA Food Bank with a Food Drive through Weeks 8 to 11. In WA, over 116,000 children live in households experiencing severe insecurity. This means these children often don’t have enough food at home to keep them healthy. These children go to school hungry, regularly miss meals and are often worried about where their next meal will come from.

Christ Church students can help by bringing non-perishable foods to school and placing them in the allocated bins over the next 4 weeks. The most wanted items include:
canned meals, canned veggies, fruit, tuna and soup, baked beans, pasta and rice, pasta sauce, oats, cereal, spreads and jams, washing products, meal bases, nappies, and toilet paper.

We introduced trial Dalkeith the service with the hope that it would be well utilised and save parents driving time and lighten the traffic load in and around the School. Unfortunately, with so few students utilising the service, it is not viable for us to continue, and the route will not continue into Term 2.

Thank you for your patience as we addressed several issues with the Southern Suburbs service this term. While Buswest has resolved some concerns, traffic congestion remains a challenge beyond our control.

From Term 2, the AM route has been adjusted with several stop changes to improve reliability. Please review the revised AM timetable and locations here. The PM route remains largely unchanged, aside from the removal of two stops. Updated times are available via the link above, and an interactive map is available here.

Due to ongoing Fremantle Traffic Bridge works, we encourage families to consider the train as a reliable alternative to ensure timely arrival at school.

Kearla Food Drive

This term, Kearla House is supporting the WA Food Bank with a Food Drive through Weeks 8 to 11. In WA, over 116,000 children live in households experiencing severe insecurity. This means these children often don’t have enough food at home to keep them healthy. These children go to school hungry, regularly miss meals and are often worried about where their next meal will come from.

Christ Church students can help by bringing non-perishable foods to school and placing them in the allocated bins over the next 4 weeks. The most wanted items include:
canned meals, canned veggies, fruit, tuna and soup, baked beans, pasta and rice, pasta sauce, oats, cereal, spreads and jams, washing products, meal bases, nappies, and toilet paper.

Christ Church Grammar School is once again supporting Australian Red Cross’ annual Bindaring Clothing Sale. Red Cross are seeking donations of clean, good-quality clothes for men, women and children. Trial Dalkeith bus route

We introduced trial Dalkeith the service with the hope that it would be well utilised and save parents driving time and lighten the traffic load in and around the School. Unfortunately, with so few students utilising the service, it is not viable for us to continue, and the route will not continue into Term 2.

Changes to the CCGS/MLC Southern Suburbs Bus Service

Thank you for your patience as we addressed several issues with the Southern Suburbs service this term. While Buswest has resolved some concerns, traffic congestion remains a challenge beyond our control.

From Term 2, the AM route has been adjusted with several stop changes to improve reliability. Please review the revised AM timetable and locations here. The PM route remains largely unchanged, aside from the removal of two stops. Updated times are available via the link above, and an interactive map is available here.

Due to ongoing Fremantle Traffic Bridge works, we encourage families to consider the train as a reliable alternative to ensure timely arrival at school.

Students arriving before 8.00am will be supervised:
- Preparatory School: White umbrellas/undercover area
- Senior School: Academic Resource Centre from 7.45am

Senior School Photos Day – Thursday 1 May

Individual portrait photos for Years 7 to 12, along with the Walters Residential Community and Year 12 cohort and Lifers’ photo will be taken on Thursday 1 May – Week 1 of Term 2. Year 7 Study Smarter Not Harder

Each Year 7 boy and one parent/guardian only are invited to attend an afternoon provided by Christ Church teachers, aimed at improving the organisation, note taking, summarising and revision skills of our Year 7 students.

The afternoon is in an interactive workshop format. It is expected that boys and their parent/guardian will sit together to complete the activities. Boys will be provided with all the relevant materials and only need bring a water bottle with them. They should wear casual clothes.

Only one adult is able to attend with each Year 7 student, and no other family members are able to attend. This event is repeated over two afternoons so all Year 7 boys may attend if they choose. You will have the option to book for either Sunday 4 May or Sunday 18 May 2025, from 1.00pm to 3.30pm. Year 7 boarders will attend with their Year Group Coordinator if parent/guardian attendance is not possible.

On Tuesday 18 February, Year 8 students participated in a Study Skills program conducted by Elevate Education, focusing on dynamic reading, note-taking, conceptual learning skills and self-directed learning.

You and your son are warmly invited to attend the Year 10 Pathways Breakfast. This event is designed for Year 10 students considering a non-ATAR pathway and their parents to explore the various options available in Years 11 and 12. You’ll hear from a range of agencies, each providing a brief overview of the support and opportunities they offer, and how they may be involved in your son’s educational journey.

If you are unable to join, please share your questions with your son so he can ask them on the morning.

Late arrival to School on a day of assessment

Students who arrive late to school due to medical appointments and subsequently sit an assessment will need to have either a medical certificate or a note from their attending physician to justify the late attendance to avoid being awarded a zero.

Year 10 Parent/Teacher/Student interviews online

The Year 10 online interviews are scheduled for Monday 26 May from 3.45pm to 7.00pm. Parents will be advised of the booking process by email approximately ten days before the interviews.

Year 10 students are asked not to attend school when unwell and will need to obtain a medical certificate from a doctor who is not a family member to cover any absence from assessment due to illness.

You can watch home fixtures for Years 7 to 9 on Friday afternoons between 2.00pm and 4.00pm, as well as 1sts and 2nds home fixtures on Saturday mornings. Click here to access the live streams. Trial Dalkeith bus route

We introduced trial Dalkeith the service with the hope that it would be well utilised and save parents driving time and lighten the traffic load in and around the School. Unfortunately, with so few students utilising the service, it is not viable for us to continue, and the route will not continue into Term 2.

Changes to the CCGS/MLC Southern Suburbs Bus Service

Thank you for your patience as we addressed several issues with the Southern Suburbs service this term. While Buswest has resolved some concerns, traffic congestion remains a challenge beyond our control.

From Term 2, the AM route has been adjusted with several stop changes to improve reliability. Please review the revised AM timetable and locations here. The PM route remains largely unchanged, aside from the removal of two stops. Updated times are available via the link above, and an interactive map is available here.

Due to ongoing Fremantle Traffic Bridge works, we encourage families to consider the train as a reliable alternative to ensure timely arrival at school.

Senior School Photos Day – Thursday 1 May

Year 11 Study Skills

On Wednesday, 30 April, Year 11 students will be involved in a Study Skills program titled ‘Ace Your Exams’ which will cover high-value exam preparation tasks, learning from mistakes, effective time management and strategies for managing stress and pressure. Students will receive an email with more details next term.

ATARget Master Classes – Term 2

These small group sessions focussing on key ATAR subjects give students quality academic support that will reinforce and consolidate skills and processes learnt in class. Classes are held on Saturday afternoons during the term, commencing on Saturday 3 May. Students can enrol at any time during the term and simply pay pro rata.

Tickets for the Year 11 Dance will be available for students to purchase from the School Book Shop from Tuesday 25 March. Students will be informed via Nexus News.

Blazer Run

A Blazer Run for Year 7 to 12 students for the embroidery of Sport, Service, Colours and Honour Awards and for Senior Braid (Year 11 and 12) will commence on Thursday 1 May. All students who didn’t bring their Blazers in for Senior Braid at the end of Year 10 need to bring their blazer’s in to have this added. The Blazer Run will end on Thursday 15 May.

Please ensure your blazer is taken to the Uniform Shop from Thursday 1 May during opening hours with badges removed and the blazer clearly named. All blazers will be dry-cleaned during the embroidery process unless the blazer is new. All costs will be charged to your school account.

In May, Head Swimming Coach Will Greenwood and members of the CCGS Swim Team will be in Broome, conducting a swimming clinic for the locals. Christ Church has a strong aquatics program, and this clinic offers our senior swimmers the chance to develop their leadership skills while building connections in the Broome swimming community. Red Cross Bindaring Clothing Sale – seeking clothes and accessories donations

Christ Church Grammar School is once again supporting Australian Red Cross’ annual Bindaring Clothing Sale. Red Cross are seeking donations of clean, good-quality clothes for men, women and children. They are also accepting accessories such as shoes, bags, belts, scarves and jewellery in good condition. The Bindaring Clothing Sale will be held at Claremont Showgrounds on Saturday 24 May. All funds raised support Australian Red Cross local services in our WA community. Please see details below if you would like to support this fantastic cause.

Collection boxes will be located in the Uniform Shop, Main Reception and the Preparatory School Reception from Monday 28 April to Friday 9 May. Two collection mornings will be held on Wednesday 30 April and Monday 5 May with Bindaring volunteers attending the School to accept donations.

MasterMind Australia – Revision & Exam Preparation Program

MasterMind Australia’s April holiday revision program is designed to reinforce key syllabus content and exam strategies ahead of the first semester exams. The program runs during the school holidays from 14 April to 17 April.

Important Academic Dates 2025

Year 12 is a fast and frenetic year – it is very helpful if parents, as well as boys, are aware of key dates. They can be found here. Please take particular note that if your son is studying a subject with a practical exam, he must be available during the Term 3 holidays for this exam. SCSA issues these exam times and will not make alternative arrangements where the times are deemed inconvenient by parents. They also do not accede to parents’ requests for particular dates and times. In short – please do not make any plans to travel interstate or overseas with your son during the Term 3 holidays.

Claremont Football Club’s Kids Holiday Workshop

The Claremont Football Club invite students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 to participate in their Kids Holiday Workshop. Form a team of 6 and compete in action-packed games these holidays! Play, have fun, and show off your skills in a friendly competition.

Pre-Primary to Year 2 students will focus on footy fundamentals, skills, drills and fun-packed sessions to build confidence. Year 3 to 6 students can submit their own squad of 6 players to compete, have fun, and show off their footy skills.
