Christ Church Footy coach inducted in to Australian Hall of Fame
Published on: 26 August 2021
Congratulations to Robert Wiley with his recent induction into the Australian Football Hall of Fame. The legend of West Australian football has been a coach at Christ Church over the past three years, working with our Senior footballers who have benefitted immensely from his wealth of experience and passion for the game.
Rob sets high standards for the Christ Church football program, established in an amazing career that included his playing days as part of premiership winning teams in the WAFL with Perth (1976-77) and in the AFL with Richmond (1980) and a coaching role at the West Coast Eagles in their premiership season of 2006. He uses this experience to guide current players in his role as a development coach at the School.
Fremantle pair Liam Henry and Isaiah Butters both played for Christ Church in 2019 before getting drafted. This season, Rob has helped the progression of Angus Sheldrick who has starred for the State Under 19’s and hopes to be drafted by an AFL club. The School also currently has 3 players in the State 17’s. Director of Sport Anthony Lynch says “Rob is humble and competitive and instils a belief that a high work ethic usually gets some pretty good results, a great example for the boys both on and off the field”.
