Cybersafety expert Paul Litherland recently spoke with our Year 7 students about the risks associated with online activity. Mr Litherland is the owner of Surf Online Safe, a Perth-based internet awareness consultancy and a former West Australian Police Officer, who served for over 20 years. He is regarded as one of Australia’s leading key note speakers on Internet Awareness.

During his conversation Paul provided practical advice to our Year 7 boys about how to stay safe online when gaming or using social media, as well as how to minimise the usual risks associated with using the internet.

In the evening Paul Litherland spoke to parents and friends of the Christ Church Community on the following topics:

  • Digital citizenship – where our kids are going online, the apps they are using and the information they are sharing
  • Online footprint – how easy it is to find kids online and what parents can do to minimise the risk
  • Social networking and networking in general – how the systems work and how to overcome their reach
  • Online gaming and website use – the risks and uses
  • Tips and tricks – how to keep an eye on your kids through software and hardware. Easy instructions on what we can do to keep them safe online.
Mr Litherland thanked the boys and staff for their reception to his visit, “It was such a fun day speaking with all the boys and it was also great to see such a large turnout for parents in the evening session. Thanks for the privilege of being part of your school community for the last five years and I look forward to seeing them again next year.”
