Feeding the less fortunate is a rewarding cause close to the hearts of a dedicated group of Year 10 ENCOMM students – part of the Food Rescue Team.

Each week the boys meet up to sort unsold food collected from supermarkets. The boys weigh and record the amount of produce, sort the fresh food from the non-consumable and label the boxes accordingly. The boxes are then stored in the kitchen’s fridges overnight before being collected by Food Rescue the following morning. All waste is weighed and recorded before being placed into compost bins.

The team work in partnership with SecondBite and PortCare who distribute the repackaged items to struggling community families.

During their weekly sessions, the Food Rescue Team have learned how to identify a wide variety of produce and sustainable food practices.
