Year 11 student Ivan Zorotovic has recently been selected to represent Australia in the U16 Water Polo World Championships which will take place in Malta in June this year. The event brings together the most promising U16 athletes from around the world and Ivan is one of only two Western Australian athletes who have been selected for the team. The competitiveness of the selection process highlights the significance of this achievement.

Ivan is the Captain of the School’s Firsts Water Polo team this year and since 2005, this is only the second instance that a Year 11 student has been named as a Firsts Sport captain. The Christ Church Firsts Water Polo team are currently ranked in second place on the PSA ladder.

In addition to the Christ Church Water Polo Firsts team, he also plays for UWA. Ivan competed in the Water Polo WA State U15 team in Sydney in September 2023, representing UWA, after which he was one of three WA players selected for the U16 National age group program squad.

“Ivan’s commitment to Water Polo is unwavering and serves as an inspiration to his peers. As a result of this hard work, he is an incredibly talented player and his performance in the pool has gone from strength to strength, particularly in recent years. We are all so excited for Ivan and will be cheering him on from afar when he competes in Malta”, commented Senior Teacher and Firsts Water Polo Coach Scott Chrystal.

Ivan’s achievement was recognised in this week’s Senior School Assembly so that his peers and teachers can celebrate his success.
