Jupp claim victory and Mark Morrissy honoured at House Regatta

The House Regatta is a highly anticipated annual event, providing students with an opportunity to compete for both their House and year group.
With favourable conditions, the energy was high for the competition. After two years of dominance, Romsey was expected to face tough competition from Jupp. The early heats saw Queenslea, Hill, Wolsey and Moyes crews eliminated, setting the stage for a thrilling final featuring Craigie, Noake, and the two power ‘houses’, Romsey and Jupp.
The final race was a nail-biter as Jupp clinched victory by a narrow margin, finishing just two seats ahead of Romsey, with Craigie following by three seats.
The day culminated with the “Challenge VIII’s,” showcasing fierce competition among five crews from Year 10 to 12, a crew of CCGS Old Boys, and the MLC 1st VIII. This event highlighted sibling rivalries, adding an extra layer of competitiveness. The Year 11 crew secured the win, followed by the Year 12 students and then the MLC 1st VIII.
After the regatta, rowers and spectators gathered around the new First VIII boat in anticipation of the christening. To everyone’s surprise, including Mark Morrissy himself, it was revealed by Nick Sumich, Simon Cox and Alan Jones that the new boat would be named the “Mark Morrissy.” Thank you to Jamie Foster who secretly contacted Mark’s family and invited them to attend, allowing everyone to celebrate and recognise his invaluable contributions to the rowing program and the School.
