Mental Health Week activities encourage students to recharge and connect
Published on: 5 September 2024
Christ Church Mental Health Week has seen students participate in a range of activities that promote wellbeing and self-care. Highlights so far have included a yoga session for students and staff which focused on mindful meditation and gentle movement, ice baths, mindful milos in the Wynne Centre, a stress-ball making workshop, and sharing mental health resources in morning Tutorial time. Throughout the week, students have been sharing the meaning behind the various symbols on our wellbeing mural, painted by James Giddy, on social media. This video shares the making of our our wellbeing mural, explained by the artist, our Wellbeing Prefects, and Director of The Wynne Centre for Wellbeing, Mr Brad Gardner.
Today’s lunchtime activity is a ‘Dap Up’ competition, where students try to engage in the perfect high-5/handshake clap – a very popular event last year which they were eager to bring back! Friday marks ‘R U OK? DAY’ and will see our Year 12s take a break for a ‘relax and recharge’ event. While they are busy preparing for their Trial Examinations, this is an opportunity to regroup, catch up with their peers over a hot drink, and support one another during what can be a stressful time.
The purpose of these activities is ultimately to spark important conversations about wellbeing and reduce stigma around mental health. Mental Health Week is supported by our Wellbeing program, which integrated into the School’s curriculum, and provides students with tools and resources for managing their physical and mental health effectively. Our commitment to holistic student support sees the School consistently offering opportunities for open dialogue and various therapeutic experiences that empower students to look after their own wellbeing, how to take action if needed, and reach out to others who may need support.
