Boarders at Christ Church form lifelong friendships and this was evident on Sunday when the Cunderdin Football Club won the Avon Football Association premiership. Five old boys  along with two current staff members formed part of the winning team.

The football club has two families to thank for continuing the connection between the School and local football team. The Morrell family, Darren and Lara who are parents of Jack (Year 9) and Ben (Year 8), and the Stevenson family, Tim and Steph who are parents of Old Boy Harry, Charlie (Year 12) and Frank (Year 10) are responsible for encouraging current staff members Jarrod Kayler-Thomson and Jack Bowles to join the club and continue the strong links to rural communities formed by Christ Church staff and boys.

Head of Year 9 OQD program Jarrod Kayler-Thomson said “The club’s success has been a remarkable story, we didn’t win a game for a few years and this year we came from nowhere to make finals, and then go on to win the premiership”.

“The past boarders are still close mates and look as if they will be life long friends. It’s incredibly satisfying to see how our boarders have maintained these special relationships,” he said. Below is the full list of players:

  • Zack Bowles (2016 and OQD mentor)
  • Jackson Dring (2020 – Captain of Residential Community)
  • Jarrod Kayler-Thomson (Health and Phys Ed Teacher and Head of Year 9 OQD program)
  • Harry Stevenson (2020)
  • Liam Tubby (2019)
  • Harry Williams (2020)
