PMC Baker Boys sell delicious treats and learn to use coffee machine
Published on: 1 August 2024
Every Thursday, the School eagerly anticipates a visit from The Baker Boys, our Senior Peter Moyes Centre students who make, bake and sell sweet treats to staff.
The Baker Boys program is well-loved by recipients and is popular with the students involved. Walking around the campus selling their baked goods gives The Baker Boys an opportunity to make conversation with their peers and staff, make new friends, and practice important sales skills such as greeting customers, advertising their products, counting money, and taking payments – not to mention they get creative with baking every week! This builds confidence and fosters important social and emotional skills such as building relationships and developing empathy.
Our Peter Moyes Centre students also continue to build their skills in the culinary space by learning to make a range of beverages, using a commercial coffee machine. This wonderful initiative offers students hands-on experiences that are useful for many facets of life beyond school.
