This past week, Christ Church’s swimmers put on an impressive display at both the PSA Inters and JPSSA swimming carnivals. At the Senior School PSA Inters, Christ Church emerged victorious, claiming the prestigious Dr K.G. Tregonning Cup for 2025. The team showcased exceptional skill, determination, and teamwork throughout the competition. Special recognition goes to the following individual age group champions for their outstanding achievements:
- Theo Porter (Under 13)
- Flynn Penegar (Under 14)
- Quinn Bewsher (Under 15)
- Charlie Spencer (Under 17)
- Jackson Anderson (Open)
Further adding to the excitement, four school records were broken. The record-breaking times are as follows:
- Charlie Spencer set a new Under 17 50m Butterfly record with a time of 26.19 seconds, surpassing Thomas Michael’s previous record of 26.44 seconds
- Charlie Spencer also broke his own Under 17 100m Breaststroke record, finishing in 1:10.20, improving on his previous record of 1:13.22
- Jackson Anderson established a new Open 50m Backstroke record with a time of 27.97 seconds, surpassing Sam Hick’s former record of 28.69 seconds
- Sam Hicks claimed the Open 100m Backstroke record with a new time of 1:00.23, surpassing the old record of 1:02.44 set by Alex Mitchell
Christ Church Head Swimming Coach, Will Greenwood, commended the team’s hard work, stating, “The Christ Church Swim Team dedicated themselves throughout the summer season, knowing that Inters night would present tough competition.”
“While individual performances were impressive, our success was driven by the strength of our relay teams,” he said.
“Christ Church secured either 1st or 2nd place in 19 out of the 24 relays, and this team-focused approach was crucial to our win.”
Meanwhile, the JPSSA Swimming Carnival saw intense competition, with every school putting up a strong fight. Christ Church finished in second place, closely behind Aquinas. The Year 6 cohort played a crucial role in the team’s success, contributing several standout individual performances that helped propel the team forward.
Congratulations to all the swimmers for their perseverance and exceptional efforts. The unwavering support from coaches, staff, and the School community has been instrumental in our continued success in the pool.
In May, Head Swimming Coach Will Greenwood and members of the CCGS Swim Team will be in Broome conducting a swimming clinic for the locals. Christ Church has a strong aquatics program, and this clinic offers our senior swimmers the chance to develop their leadership skills while building connections in the Broome swimming community.
