Prep School boys from Years 3 to 6 recently took part in the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC), taking on a series problem solving challenges designed to put their mathematical thinking to the test.

The Australian Mathematics Competition, one of the world’s largest school-based mathematics competitions with more than 14 million entries since 1978, involves students being asked to solve 30 problems within 60 minutes (Years 3 to 6) or 75 minutes (Years 7 to 12) with problems designed to be answered just as quickly without a calculator. Christ Church has participated in the competition year on year, offering its best and brightest students in Mathematics the chance to compete with the rest of Australia.

“Our boys prepared very well for the competition by reviewing and completing previous years papers and working on their local reasoning skills. All of the boys took the competition very seriously but also had fun competing”, said Mathematics Specialist, Mr Ryan Carson.

The boys now eagerly await their results from the University of Canberra.
