An abundance of activity in the library – Leigh Hobbs and the Book Fair
Published on: 13 July 2016
Leigh Hobbs visited Christ Church recently, inspiring and entertaining our Years 1 to 4 boys with stories and workshops about Old Tom, Mr Chicken and Horrible Harriet.
Leigh is an Australian artist and author, and the new Australian Children’s Laureate. His role as the Laureate is to promote the importance of reading, creativity and story in the lives of young Australians.
“Leigh delighted the boys with a series of drawing workshops, showing them the process of creating his characters. He had an excellent rapport with the boys and they followed instructions closely to produce amazing results,” said Mary Hookey, Teacher Librarian.
“Many parents have commented on the boys’ excitement and their continued enthusiasm at home. His books have been flying off the shelves.”
The annual Prep School Book Fair was a great success thanks to the boys and staff who contributed their time and effort.
This year, we donated the commission from the sale of books to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Over $2000 will assist in developing reading and writing skills in Indigenous communities across Australia.
Thank you to the parents who supported the Book Fair this year. It is wonderful to see the excitement it generates around books and reading.
