Over the school holidays, Christ Church boys from across the Prep and Senior Schools ventured to the snowfields for a week of snowboarding and skiing. While 24 boys from the Prep School travelled to New South Wales, New Zealand’s Cardrona provided a winter wonderland for nine of the senior boys.

During the 30th annual Prep ski trip, the Year 5, 6 and 7 boys visited the Snowy Hydro Electric museum in Canberra, before hitting the snow-covered slopes of Perisher Valley. Prep Teacher, Mr Jamie Fagan said the boys had a great time.

“All boys managed to ski independently and their manners and general behaviour was a credit to the School and themselves,” he said.

“Many thanks to Mrs Marley Cooke, Ms Hailey Cox and Mrs Stephanie Bull for giving up their holidays to assist in running the highly successful tour.”

The senior boys enjoyed great weather in New Zealand, including some of the best snow in over a decade.

“There was a lot of good skiing and snowboarding over the five days, the fast learners didn’t take long to seek out some of the many jumps and grinds on offer,” said Mr Brad Downing.

Midway through the week, to give their bodies a well-deserved break, the boys took some time to explore Queenstown, where they went jet boating, played mini-golf, shopped and took in the spectacular view from the Skyline Gondola. They also took in a traditional Maori cultural show.

“It was fantastic to see how far they progressed, given most of the boys were beginner skiers and snowboarders,” said Mr Mike Ristovsky.

Both teachers agreed that the boy’s good behavior made it a pleasure to tour with them.
