The boys have been on their bikes this week as part of the School’s ‘Ride to School Week’.

As part of a joint initiative led by our Student Wellbeing and Environmental Committees, students have been encouraged to ride their bikes to school this week as a way of driving positive change in the school community.

“Riding to school not only helps the environment, but supports student health and wellbeing by increasing their physical activity levels. Exercise, particularly in the morning, helps to awaken the mind and sets you up for a productive and positive day at school”, said Director of The Wynne Centre for Boys’ Health and Wellbeing, Liam Casson.

On Tuesday the boys rushed to the Prep School oval during lunch to witness Professional BMX rider Todd Meyn perform gravity-defying stunts. The Perth local has been competing as a professional BMX athlete since the age of 15 and has been a part of the Nitro Circus collective of action sports athletes since 2012. In 2016 he was also a serious contender in the inaugural Nitro World Games, where he made the finals competing against some of the best riders in the world.

To further the excitement, the initiative has also included some perks which have encouraged widespread participation amongst the boys.

“Senior School boys who ride their bike to school get their name recorded and entered into a raffle draw for the chance to win a free lunch in the canteen” said Mr Casson.

Wellbeing Prefect Parker Robinson spoke about the future of the initiative “The Ride to School Week has been so successful in supporting the already amazing culture that exists at the School. We hope to see the initiative grow over time, with more and more boys participating every year and feeling the benefits.”
