Christ Church are PSA Chess champions for the seventh consecutive year!
On Tuesday 23 August, the School hosted the PSA Chess Tournament and after a rough start, suffering a surprise 4-1 defeat from Scotch College, the boys worked their way back to the top.
Scotch had a strong team this year but our boys provided stronger, defeating them with a 5-0 blow in the penultimate round.
The successful team included:
Board 1 – Liam Tien
Board 2 – Eric Pan
Board 3 – Jay Mu
Board 4 – Jesse Zhou
Board 5 – Nicholas Pizzino and Joshua Fry
“The boys are very proud of their achievement, after working hard on their opening, mid and end game, as well as their mental approach to playing competitive chess in timed conditions,” said Dominic Hodnett, Teacher in charge of Chess.
“Chess coach Ned Robles instilled within the team a strong psychological resolve and an awareness of the need to be humble either in victory or defeat. We are indebted to his commitment to Chess here at Christ Church over a number of years.”
