This year’s Concerto Night was a truly outstanding celebration of talent and dedication to the craft of music making.

The first half of the evening featured concerto movements from Devin He (Piano – Mendelssohn), Eliot Roberts (Piano – Saint-Saens), Roman Shao (‘Cello – Elgar) and James Blaxill (Clarinet- Weber). Each soloist brought great finesse and technical mastery to their playing, accompanied by the Senior Orchestra conducted by Aaron Wyatt and Kevin Gillam.

The first half vocal contributions from David Woods (Carissimi) and Lachie Higgins (Sante Fe), were delivered with excellent degrees of sensitivity and phrasing.

The second half featured more contemporary repertoire, with brilliant jazz solo items from Nowar Koning, Jack Annear and Leo Li. We heard classics from Chick Corea, Miles Davis and the Jackson 5, all backed by the very stylish Jazz Band Combo directed by Paul Millard.

The last piece of the night, Ashan Weerasooriya’s Save Me, showcased the combined CCGS/MLC orchestras, rock band and choir, a fitting tribute to the array of musical skills within both schools. Many thanks to the staff and students who made this a spectacular night.
