Boy on a Wire author ‘beams’ into classroom

Author and Miles Franklin Literary Award long-lister, Jon Doust, was a recent guest speaker to our Year 12 General English class, discussing his novel Boy on a Wire via live video.
The class has been exploring themes such as justice, coming of age and father/son relationships, based on the novel based on a boy being sent to boarding school at a young age.
Year 12 student Kobi Pecotich said, “Talking to Jon was an awesome experience, we got to ask him about his book and significant questions we had about what Christ Church Grammar School was like back then, along with what scenes in the book actually happened.”
“He is a really enthusiastic and quirky guy, this was a once in a life time meeting.”
Fellow classmate Alex Robinson commented that it was a great opportunity to hear Jon’s views of his own novel and hoped that many other students get to experience a talk by Jon in the future.
Doust is a Christ Church old boy from Bridgetown and is also author of the adult novels To the Highlands and Return Ticket.
