Christ Church wins top spots in Have Sum Fun

Christ Church once again achieved excellent results in the recent Have Sum Fun competition organised by the Mathematics Association of WA.
The School entered three teams of six boys into the Lower (Years 7 and 8), Middle (Years 9 and 10) and Upper (Years 11 and 12) Secondary divisions. The lower Secondary Division placed first, and the Upper and Middle Secondary divisions both placed second.
Head of Mathematics Khee Lim said the event, held in mid-March, drew teams from across the State for “two nights of mathematical whizzing in an atmosphere which is best described as energising and stimulating.”
After four rounds of hard-fought battles and a tiebreaker on the first night, Christ Church finished second in the Upper Secondary division. “It might have been past 10.00pm on a Friday night but the students were certainly still buzzing and invigorated,” Mr Lim said.
The following week, the Years 9 and 10 team placed second out of 58 teams in an intense Middle Secondary competition. Teachers from other schools complimented our boys on “working so beautifully – completely focused, excellent teamwork and great concentration right to the last minute.”
At another venue on the same evening, the Years 7 and 8 team brought great honour to the School by winning the Lower Secondary division. Mathematics teacher Wendy Huynh, who is new to Christ Church this year, was all praise for the boys. “I am so impressed at how the Year 7 boys gelled with the Year 8 boys after only two lunchtime training sessions, despite being in the Senior School for just seven weeks,” Ms Huynh said.
Congratulations to the following team members:
Upper Secondary (Years 11 and 12): Albert Qiu, Terry Pham, Joseph Brough, Leo Li, Nicholas Pizzino, Devin He.
Middle Secondary (Years 9 and 10): Kohsuke Sato, Keaton Wright, William Hu, Akio Ho, Matthew Hamdorf.
Lower Secondary (Years 7 and 8): Robert Lee, Daniel Mah, George Schulz, Declan Barrett, Jason Lu, Adam Robbins.
