Over the Anzac long weekend ten CCGS boys and eight St Hilda’s girls travelled to Kooringal for the first joint Year 8 coding camp. The students worked through a series of programming challenges in order to prepare for the upcoming Australian Informatics Olympiad in September.

The goals of the camp were to get students enthused about coding, teach them important skills necessary for success in the Informatics Olympiad and establish a network of collaborative coders between the two schools.

Mr Jan Honnens and Mr Daniel Budd said they were impressed by the students’ enthusiasm, coding ability and their willingness to collaborate in a team.

“The students worked well together and had a great time doing so, we are already making plans for the 2016 camp,” Mr Budd said.

Following the success of the mandatory Digital Thinking classes in Year 7 and 8, and the enthusiasm shown during the Year 8 coding camp, the informatics team are planning a Year 7 camp later in the year. If you are interested in getting involved, please speak with your Digital Thinking teachers.
