A new multi-code Winter Sports Development Program aimed at fast tracking boys with the potential to play Firsts over the next three to four years was launched this term.
Specialist coaches in football, rugby, soccer and hockey are running the sessions with about 50 boys from Years 8 and 9.
Director of Sport Anthony Lynch said selected boys had been invited to attend the afterschool training sessions on Mondays from now until the end of the winter sports season as part of the talent identification program. “Boys have been chosen by individual coaches in consultation with relevant teachers-in-charge and we will be adding names as the season goes on,” Mr Lynch said.
“These sessions are skills-based focusing on the fundamentals including touch and game awareness,” Mr Lynch said.
The coaches include former Argentina international hockey player Kimberley Grant, dual premiership Claremont Football Club player Trinity Hadley, former West Subiaco Rugby Club first grade coach Stuart Montgomery and current Seconds Soccer, Year 7 and Pro Football coach Dean Evans.
“The coaches involved are all Level 2 or 3 accredited coaches so this program is another great addition to the future of the sports program at Christ Church,” Mr Lynch said.
