Tim Chapman, Keaton Wright and Alexander Shearer were recently recognised for their exceptional performances in the Australian Science Olympiad examinations.
Tim and Keaton received bronze medals for Chemistry; Keaton also received a bronze medal for Physics; and Alexander Shearer was awarded a bronze medal for Physics and a gold medal for Chemistry.
“These examinations are particularly challenging in nature, requiring students to demonstrate exceptional problem solving ability and understanding of university level concepts,” said Dr Holly Rose.
“Of the students who sat these examinations, a number have achieved High Distinctions, placing them in the top 10 per cent of students who sat the examinations Australia-wide.”
Following his success in the Olympiad, Alexander was invited to attend the Chemistry Olympiad Summer School. This intensive course is held over two weeks in January at the Australian National University and it is here that preparation and selection for the International Chemistry Olympiad takes place. This is a significant achievement and we congratulate Alexander on his achievements.
