Old boys talk about life after school

The annual Year 12 Headmaster’s Dinner was held on the evening of 6 May in Sandover Hall, while parents attended the Year 12 Parents’ Association Sundowner in the Refectory.
This year, old boys Ned Brophy-Williams (2005) and Haaron Bokhari (1995) returned to shed light on life after Christ Church. Both Ned and Haaron spoke about their journeys, careers, friendships, and making the most of opportunities in life.
Jack Hawkesford, Captain of the School, said the boys greatly appreciated Ned and Haaron giving up their time to speak with the Year 12s.
“We really appreciated hearing about their career pathways and experiences since graduating from Christ Church. It has provided us with a clear example of what we can achieve following our school years if we are focused and persistent.”
Pastoral staff, Members of the School Council and Executive attended the dinner with Year 11 boarders serving food and refreshments.
Many topics were covered throughout the night, with the evening concluding on a sobering note. Headmaster Garth Wynne spoke of Luke Holland (1977), School Prefect, Captain of Queenslea House, member of the Chapel Committee, winner of the Cramer Cup for the Best All Round Cricketer and the Year 12 German award. Sadly, Luke died in a car accident during his final year at school.
Luke’s blazer, donated by the Holland family, is a reminder at every Headmaster’s Dinner, of youth, and the fragility of life.
It is hoped that some of our current Year 12 boys will reflect on the evening and in time to come, will consider being keynote speakers at future Headmaster’s Dinners.
