‘Find and follow your passions,’ this was the message delivered to the Year 12 students at the Father and Son breakfast at the end of Term 2.

Held at Fraser’s Restaurant, more than 300 students, fathers, male mentors and guests shared stories and a laugh, thanks to the generosity of the Parents’ Auxiliary.

Invited to speak at the breakfast, John Welborn shared his passions in life – his family, rugby and more recently, mining. He advised the boys to find and follow their passions, explaining that there would be disappointments along the way, but it was how they used these situations that would determine their success.

John is a Christ Church parent and a highly regarded businessman and rugby player. He played seven seasons for the Waratahs and six tests for the Wallabies. John also spent a number of years playing rugby in South Africa, the UK and France. In 2005, John returned to Perth to be a founding player in the Western Force’s inaugural season.

John now works as an investment banker, commentates and writes on rugby, is a player representative on the board of Rugby WA, an executive committee member of the Rugby Union Players Association, and holds directorships of the Force 15 Foundation and Future Now Learning for Life.
