Senior School athletes improved their overall performance percentage to finish sixth in the PSA Athletics Carnival while the Preparatory School finished second in the JPSSA carnival last week. The 2013 athletics season wrapped up with the JPSSA carnival on Thursday and PSA carnival on Friday at the State Athletics Centre.

Prep Sportsmaster Brady Leckie said the Years 3 to 6 boys performed really well to finish second overall behind 2013 Champion School Aquinas. The final standings were Aquinas (886), Christ Church (840), Wesley (811), Hale (803), Scotch (789), Trinity (756) and Guildford (753).

“The boys did a fantastic job with a couple JPSSA records tumbling on the day including Harrison Bartley in the Year 5 200m (28.5 sec) and Tom Ball in the Year 6 200m (27.88 sec),” Mr Leckie said.

On Friday, Christ Church took a large team of 147 athletes from Years 7 to 12 to the PSA Athletics. Director of Sport Anthony Lynch said the team finished with 1,046 points – the most points scored by the Christ Church Athletics Team in six years.

“In 2012, we finished in sixth place behind Wesley, however, the difference in points between the two schools in 2013 was significantly less,” Mr Lynch said. “So while the result was the same, the overall performance of the team improved considerably.”

The final result was Scotch in first place, followed by Aquinas, Trinity, Hale, Wesley, CCGS and Guildford.

2013 Athletics Captain Zac Speed was the highest point scorer of the team with 54 points including first place in the Open Triple Jump, second in both Open 200m and Open 100m, and fourth in 4 x 100m Relay.
