Christ Church’s rowing team delivered outstanding performances at the Head of the River regatta, winning the prestigious Challenge Cup and sharing the Hamer Cup with Trinity College. This historic achievement marks the School’s first dual cup victory in 20 years.

The regatta began with the Year 9 crews making a strong statement, with all teams earning podium finishes. The 9A crew claimed first place by a narrow margin of 0.04 seconds, setting a new course record.

Year 10 crews also achieved remarkable results, with the 10Quad finishing second and the 10B crew securing another second-place finish. The 10A crew showed great determination, finishing fifth.

The 4th VIII delivered a commanding performance, winning by 9 seconds and setting a new course record – Christ Church’s second of the day.  The undefeated 3rd VIII continued their dominance with another victory, while the 2nd VIII placed fourth, sparking a renewed determination in Year 11 rowers for next season.

The highlight of the regatta was the 1st VIII race, where Christ Church claimed the Challenge Cup with an impressive 7-second win.

The day’s celebrations culminated in the Head of the River Dinner at the Sandover Dining Hall, where the Christ Church rowing community reflected on a season of exceptional accomplishments.

A special thank you to Nick Sumich, Teacher in Charge of Rowing, and the rowing coaches for their unwavering dedication and efforts in making this season a resounding success.

The Christ Church 1st VIII is currently in Tasmania for the 2025 Rowing Championships, where they will compete against other top 1st VIII crews from around the country. We wish them the best of luck.
