Christ Church won the 2014 Australian Schools Teams Racing Championships held on Rose Bay in Sydney’s eastern suburbs in the final week of Term 2.

It is the fifth time the School has been crowned national champions, most recently in 2010. Twenty-four teams from across Australia competed, with WA represented by Christ Church and Shenton College, who finished first and second respectively in the State championships in April.

The Christ Church team comprised experienced Year 12 skippers Lachy Gilmour, Max Giudice and Brendon Wright, along with crewmen Aaron Wright (Year 10) and Year 9 students Liam Forrester, Alex Shearer and Tom Giudice.

In the absence of regular coach Sam Gilmour (Class of 2010), who was overseas competing at the World University Match Racing Championships in Italy, Luc Tasker (Class of 2004) coached the team to victory alongside Team Manager Geoff McGillivray.

Mr McGillivray said the boys sailed consistently throughout the regatta, sitting in second place by the end of the preliminary racing and winning the semi-final rounds with confident sailing.

In the final races of regatta, Christ Church challenged last year’s champion St Joseph’s School from Port Lincoln, SA, for the top place with a confident 3-0 win resulting in Christ Church winning the gold medal.
