As Christ Church’s Firsts Tennis Team makes a tilt to bring home the PSA championship title this weekend, one of its key players is on the rise to the top on the national stage.

Louis Corker (Year 11) was recently selected as one of only six players nationally to train with the Junior Davis Cup Team. He has been ranked number 1 for his age group and most recently competed at the ITF Under 18 Competition in New Zealand.

Louis said his career highlight to date was the opportunity to meet and train with the Men’s Davis Cup Team including players Lleyton Hewitt and Nick Kyrgios, and coaches Pat Rafter and Tony Roache.

However, it has not been all smooth sailing for Louis. At 12, he suffered a knee injury, which kept him out of the game for two years. Despite this, he came back with no Australian ranking points then to be ranked number one in the space of just 10 months.

On Monday, Louis heads to Shepparton, Victoria, where he will compete in the Australian Money Tournament to decide if he will represent Australia in the Junior Davis Cup.

Louis said his next goal would be to work towards the Junior Australian Open in January 2016. “I love travelling the world, through Europe, New Zealand and Asia, and competing and experiencing a wide variety of cultures,” he said. “I’m aware how lucky I am and that not many 16-year-olds have been exposed to the world like I have.”

Louis said ever since he began swimming with Kirby Swim as an 11-year-old, he wanted to go to Christ Church. “So every time I go on the court and compete for Christ Church, not only in tennis but also swimming and athletics, I want to win for the School, as I have loved every single moment that I’ve been here,” he said.

“The passion and culture of the boys in both sporting and academic endeavours, makes me strive to do CCGS proud.”

The First and Second VIII take on Aquinas College at Aquinas (hard courts) on Saturday 28 March at 8.30am.
