The boys woke to a pinkish sky and we knew we had a big day ahead of us if we were to stay in contention for the inaugural Melbourne Grammar School International Hockey Tournament trophy. After a speech from Mr Noble we were inspired and ready to face our fierce opposition – Westlake of New Zealand. Hugo was finding great spots and was able to put away the first goal of the game with an excellent deflection off the post. The CCGS backline inspired the boys to hustle hard with Christian making some crazy saves, and Ben and Rob being solid in full back. Then New Zealand managed to sneak a goal and possession was all to them. However with the defensive efforts of some of the boys we managed to keep the score line to 1-1. We went into the next fixture a bit too overconfident against Eltham. However, the boys walked off the field with the 3-2 victory but knowing we should have done much better. After the gruelling matches Mr Noble forced us to go to the famous St Kilda Beach for a recovery swim.
