The leadership group for the First XVIII football squad was appointed this week, during the boys’ season launch at the Mt Claremont playing fields.
This season Tim English will take the reigns as captain of the squad, assisted by vice captain Mac Robinson and deputy vice captain Rumi Bennett. Committee member roles will be undertaken by Calen Simpson-Lewis, Jake Stergiou and Zack Bowles.
Drew McDonald, Teacher in Charge of Football, said he looked forward to a strong season ahead with a very talented group of players and staff.
“We have a great squad this season, including three boys playing in the State 16s and 18s squads and others training with various WAFL teams.”
He also mentioned the high calibre coaching staff, which includes John Dimmer (multiple WAFL premiership coach and player), Ryan Turnbull (former premiership player for the West Coast Eagles and Sandover Medalist) and Andy Stone (former assistant coach at South Fremantle).
At the launch, old boy and West Coast Eagles player, Eric McKenzie (2005), presented the jumpers and provided the boys with valuable advice for the season.
“Compete like every game is your last, make every game a winner and enjoy your time here at Christ Church.”
Following a good pre-season with close scratch matches against Bunbury Cathedral Grammar and Clontaff, the boys are looking forward to a season of strong results. The season runs from 2 May to 8 August.
