Early morning training sessions aimed at better preparing track athletes ahead of the PSA Athletics begin next week. Director of Sport Anthony Lynch said while nominated boys were asked attend the ‘sunrise sessions’ – targeted at achieving better team results – any boy was welcome to join in.

Mr Lynch said selected boys had been invited to train before school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from now until the end of the winter sport season in Term 3. He said boys were chosen based on their 2012 athletics results and fitness testing results from PE classes. Those who attend training will also receive a free breakfast in Sandover Dining Hall after each session.

Mr Lynch said the focus of this year’s training squad was on running-based events and that all sessions would concentrate on technique and running specific fitness. “History has shown that our results at PSA Athletics have not been strong. However, what has happened in our past should not dictate what we allow to happen in our future,” he said.

“Many people walk through life looking for excuses to quit. At Christ Church Grammar School, we are looking for those people who find reasons not to quit. It all depends on how hard you want to succeed and what you are willing to go through to reach your goals.”

The Athletics Training Squad’s ‘Sunrise Sessions’ start on Tuesday 30 July and will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 6.45am to 7.40am. Full training for the athletics season begins in Week 6 with the House Athletics Carnival on Friday 30 August.
