Sport Science students visit West Coast Eagles facility

Last Wednesday, our two Year 10 Sports Science classes went on an excursion to Mineral Resources Park, the home of the West Coast Eagles in Lathlain, to see Sports Science in action.
Accompanied by PE Teachers Anthony Lynch and Brad Downing, the excursion involved boys touring the West Coast Eagles facility to see the indoor facility where players warm up and prepare for training, as well as the public café and foyer area where the team’s four Premiership Cups are on display.
The boys were also treated to seeing the squad training in preparation for their game against the Adelaide Crows.
The second part of the excursion took place in the West Coast Health sport science facility where the boys took part in a sport science lecture, participated in three high-tech exercise physiology stations (VO2 max testing, force plate analysis and the biodex machine for testing leg strength), and had a Q&A session with West Coast Eagles star Shannon Hurn.
The excursion allowed the boys to see sport science in action, and its application to real-life scenarios enhanced the boys understanding of the theoretical components they have been learning in class.
It was a fun day out and boys were appreciative of the opportunity to see parts of the West Coast facility that are normally off-limits to the public.
