Students get the crowd swinging at Ellington’s Jazz Night
Published on: 17 June 2021
Our Senior Jazz Ensembles put on an electrifying performance in front of a sold out crowd at the Ellington Jazz Club on Monday night. The iconic venue hosted the annual Ellington’s Jazz Night which was once again a highlight of the School year and a wonderful celebration of jazz music thanks to the Christ Church Music Department.
Throughout the evening the audience was treated to fantastic performances of jazz standards and hits from our Saxaphone, Jazz Band 1, Jazz Band 2 and Jazz Combo ensembles. Jazz Director Paul Millard and a handful of special guests, including Old Boys, joined the ensembles to entertain with a range of incredible musical items. MC Stella Kelly kept the energy high and entertained the crowd between sets.
Ms Kelly praised the talent of the boys saying, “All of the students were fantastic and the parents loved their performances! We’ve had a lot of positive feedback already.”
“The Ellington Jazz Club is one of the best live music venues in Perth so the boys were very fortunate to be able to perform there. They have a beautiful grand piano, great sound and lighting and a very intimate space for the audience to sit in and enjoy the performances,” said Ms Kelly.
The night was a fantastic success thanks to a number of individuals who contributed time and effort in the lead up to this year’s event.
Special thanks to Kevin Gillam, Paul Millard, Cassandra Podbury, Karen Sim, Joe Gretch, Eboney Yapp, Stella Kelly, Christine Counsel, James Chapman, Jack Collinson, all the CCGS instrumental music teachers, FrOM and the Ellington Jazz Club staff.
