Students swap school bags for sleeping bags to support the homeless

Christ Church Grammar School’s Year 10 students joined over 450 guests in a sleepover at Optus Stadium on Friday 20 August for the 2021 Anglicare WA School Sleep Out.
Team Christ Church spent the night with just a pillow and sleeping bag at the stadium to support Anglicare WA’s youth homelessness service, Street Connect. Street Connect provides outreach, counselling and support to young people experiencing homelessness via its mobile youth resource facility – the Street Connect Bus. All donations received will help keep the Street Connect bus on the streets of Perth, helping WA’s most vulnerable young people.
Team Christ Church raised over $17,000 in donations for the sleepover that strengthens the School’s commitment to building good men to make a positive difference in their world. This mission encapsulates the energy, diversity and rigour of the School’s programs while highlighting the importance of community and the spiritual side of humanity.
Year 10 boy Oliver Pentony personally raised over $2,000 and is an Anglicare Ambassador for 2021 “I have been involved in the recent initiative of the Great Southern Family and Domestic Violence service appeal at school, collecting warm winter woolies for those who are less fortunate, and learning about the struggles that over 9,000 people face every night in tough conditions on the streets has made me determined to help this cause” he said.
