Last Friday, Fergus Khoo (Year 8) and Wesley Mairs (Year 10) were each awarded the GAWA Young Geographer of the Year for 2024, receiving $250 cash prizes at the annual GAWA Teachers’ Conference.
Entrants were required to produce a five minute video report on this year’s theme of ‘Geographical issues affecting the liveability of Perth’.
Fergus chose to investigate the issue of traffic congestion along Stirling Highway and Wesley looked at the changing face of the North Fremantle coastal region. The judging panel highlighted the thorough fieldwork and articulate presentations from both students.
Head of Humanities, Mr Andy Greig, was delighted with the result. “We are very proud of Fergus and Wesley for their dedication to achieving excellence in the subject of Geography and we encourage more students to get involved next year”.
