Water polo has a long-standing and celebrated history at Christ Church Grammar School, producing not only competitive athletes but also strong leaders and team players. The recent unveiling of the new First VII uniforms by old boy and Australian Olympian, John Hedges (’16), was a proud moment for our community, symbolising the legacy of excellence and sportsmanship that our water polo program continues to uphold.

Over the holidays, eight of our water polo players flew to Queensland to represent Western Australia in the 2024 Water Polo National State Championships. Competing on the national stage, these students demonstrated not only their athletic prowess but also the values of teamwork, resilience, and leadership nurtured at Christ Church.

Our U17 WA State team was strengthened by Year 11 students Josh Keddy and Ivan Zorotovic, along with Year 10 student Christian McGlew. Meanwhile, the U15 State team featured Year 10 students Hayden Jefferys and Ryan Wallis as co-captains (Ryan not pictured), supported by fellow Year 10 student Lachie Sheldrick, and Year 9 students Essington Bailey and Jack Gibson. Their performances are a testament to the depth of talent and dedication within our water polo community.

Water polo at Christ Church is more than just a sport—it’s an opportunity for students to learn the value of discipline, the power of teamwork, and the importance of perseverance. From training sessions in the early morning to competing on a national level, our students are supported by experienced coaches, dedicated staff, and a strong network of old boys who continue to mentor and inspire.
