Over the holidays, the Christ Church Grammar School Army Cadet Unit successfully completed the Annual Field Exercise. On the prize giving day of the exercise, CCGSCU was awarded the best unit – a mighty achievement.

On Friday 14 October, the Unit celebrated the success of 2016 with the End of Year Parade. Numerous prizes were awarded by Principal Alan Jones at his first CCGSCU parade. The cadets’ dress and bearing was of a high standard and this year the parade was supported by the WA Army Cadet Brigade Pipes and Drums, which enhanced the sense of occasion.

The Regimental Dining-in Night was held at Sandover Dining Hall later that evening. Year 12 cadets, parents, staff of the Army Cadets and the Australian Defence Force came together in recognition of the cadets’ achievements and in thanks for supporting the unit throughout the training year.

Regional Cadet Under Officer Sam Elias was presented with the Long Tan Youth Teamwork and Leadership Award by Colonel Milton Butcher RFD, commander of the WA Army Cadet Brigade.

“2016 was a very successful year for CCGSCU where we managed to dux the Cadet Under Officers (CUO), Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCO) and the Junior Non-Commissioned Officers (JNCO) courses. CCGSCU supported various events ranging from the Rats of Tobruk Memorial Service to the Anzac Day Parade. Overall, the Unit’s skill, attitude and discipline prevailed and saw CCGSCU regain the Unit Efficiency Shield, awarded to the best performing unit in the state,” said the Adjutant, CUO Adam Butler.
