Year 10 students float their business ideas in the Shark Tank
Published on: 3 November 2022
This week some of our Year 10 students had the opportunity to pitch their business ideas to a panel of industry leaders (known as ‘Sharks’) in a Shark Tank project.
The Shark Tank project forms a key part of the ‘T.I.C.K’ (Think, Innovate, Create and Know) unit the students are currently studying.
The entrepreneurial students were tasked with devising an original product or service, developing a business model – including calculating the target market, sales and financials – and then pitching the idea to secure investment from the panel of Sharks. The Sharks then had the chance to ask questions of the boys to test their thinking and the finer points of their products and pitches.
Some of the ideas pitched to our sharks included an innovative new neck-brace to protect Motocross riders, a drink to mitigate the dangers of sunburn and skin cancer, and a protective case for solar batteries to keep them operating at the optimal temperature.
The panel of sharks included:
- Professor Yogi Yogesan – 2015 Australian of the Year finalist and co-founder of Medivitals Pty Ltd
- Matt MacFarlane – CEO of icetana and recipient of the Pearcey Western Australian Entrepreneur of the Year award
- Olivia Humphrey – Director and co-founder of Storyd Group, and the ex-CEO and founder of streaming platform Kanopy
- Jean-Paul Papineau – Christ Church Grammar School’s Director of Pedagogy
