Christopher Pye (1968) has been appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the tourism and hospitality industry in Western Australia through leadership roles and to the community.
Chris obtained Honours in Law at UWA before joining the family business, Ace Cinemas, where he still works (42 years later). Chris spent 15 years on the board of the WA Trotting Association, was past board member of the children’s charity Variety WA, is a current a member of the Trustee Board for a large aboriginal corporation providing commercial and financial expertise, is Deputy Chair of the Tourism Industry Membership Group, is on the board of Tourism Council WA, is Chair of the Regional Tourism Organisation ‘Australia’s Golden Outback’ and – as a day job – is the Chair and CEO of the diversified tourism company Hospitality Pty Ltd.
If that’s not impressive enough, Chris adds: “The last thing in my blood was a love of sailing – my dad was a master mariner during the pacific theatre of WW2 and taught seamanship at HMAS Leeuwin – I am a 30 something year member of the Royal Perth Yacht Club and have been a member of the Team Racing Squad for more than a decade. I have also helmed in at least 10 international events including at London on the Thames, Cowes, Long Island New York, Marblehead in Boston and the YC Costa Smeralda in Sardinia.”
“CCGS was excellent for me and I made many friends there who are still close friends now. I learned a lot about discipline and the rewards of hard work but mostly I learned about the importance of being able to work with and in teams and about the non-cash rewards that one gains from sharing experiences and quests with others”, said Chris.
